MIGRATION TIME AGAIN

By on January 26, 2012

RECOGNIZING THE BEAUTY OF THE EGRETS BRINGING ATTENTION TO THE WORLD

Do you still remember the first wildlife  article I have written on this site?It was the ”EGRETS- THE MIGRATORY BIRDS” Part 1-2. What’s the status of the egrets? Once again, it’s time to move. Months after this blog was published, I was still getting requests from readers asking me to pen more in the same vein. As a result of its unprecedented success, I have received numerous emails from students all over the world asking for permission to use material from here in their own coursework, the V- Formation of Birds for science thesis. The permission was only given to be used for educational purposes, and not for commercial or personal gain. When I made my debut in the publishing world in 2011, it was during the month of January.

Soon after, another wildlife article came up.”OWL- THE SILENT HUNTERS OF THE NIGHT’. It was a wonderful story with interesting information about these species. The Coverage of the Migratory birds was photographed by Alex Chan, the Director of Pixel Pro Photography and other Pixel Pro Photography club members,Malaysia. They came up with shots worth publishing. More than sixty  images that will stimulate your appetite to make  your viewing more meaningful.

(Click on images to view larger)

A year after, World seems endless with problems. Egrets started to disappear. Changes of climate effecting these species leaving them less in numbers. It was an alarming rate and the  curious threat is hunting these birds for feather trade. I truly believed, the extent of hunting these epecies maybe much more than what has already been reported and greater in danger to  face extinction. Some egrets living in an area that is heavily affected by habitat destruction and hunting. We are losing wild places and wildlife. The world’s original forest  have been cut down. Other threats; poaching and capturing them for illegal trade.

What are your thoughts on these feathered creatures? They are able to feel the changes in the environment, just like humans, and have a delicate sensitivity to the pollution that is present.I really don’t want them to disappear completely. As a result, the intention behind the composition of these articles is to “Save the Egrets,” with the expectation that this will result in an increase in the population growth of egrets and inspire hope in the minds of younger people. Perhaps, a more promising future for the free-flying birds. The most terrifying aspect of it is that it will almost certainly happen again unless significant steps are taken to prevent it.However, there were times when the efforts made to save people were not sufficient. We never seem to learn from our mistakes and continue to make the same blunders over and over again. This is the reason why the same mistakes are made over and over again throughout history. We, humanity, are the animals’ most formidable foe, and we are also the primary adversary of the natural environment. The activities of humans are largely to blame, which is a horrifying thought in and of itself. What do you think about this, and why?

In the coming years, There will be plenty to worry about when it comes particularly to these migratory birds. They might face the same fate like the passenger pigeons. They vanished, leaving not a single species left on earth. It’s a waste of time to point fingers about who! responsible for their disappearance.

This fresh perspective on protecting the environment for future generations has been developed in order to allay concerns. Now is the time to take action on something. We have a responsibility to safeguard the egrets and inspire others to do the same. A fresh strategy has taken shape! Make sure that nothing like the past happens again. The only thing we need to focus on is finding a solution. We will not be successful in achieving this goal unless we first come to the realization that we can solve any problem we face by cooperating with one another.

Help me spread my message. This should serve as a wake-up call to everyone involved. I just have to keep my fingers crossed that we can all find a way to collaborate in order to save the wildlife for future generations. I really wish that we could set aside some extra time and be reminded of the obligations that we have.I am not going to coerce you into doing what I suggest. I cannot stress enough that I am not intending to impart any knowledge to you by means of the aforementioned creatures. It is up to human beings to ensure the well-being of the animals in their care.We have the ability to make the world a better place to live in and to make the most of our lives if we collaborate with one another. We need to take action right away, and I’m going to do my part. Where do you stand?

The egret in flight.

During the photography session of the migrating birds, members of the Pixel Pro Photography club captured the scenes at the right time and at the right moment, and the result was? Every photograph was breathtaking in its own unique way. What are your thoughts?

I photographed  birds in natural habitat and my mission is to save it. I have taken my camera everywhere with me around. A camera that I can depend on. Something that would be the least of my worries so I can concentrate on capturing the birds. When you are shooting on a trip, you must be ready always. Photography is quiet a difficult and challenging task, the exposure of image and apparent brightness is very important. It’s hard to locate the birds, they hardly ever stay still.  you can’t go closely and approach them. This is the kind of gear that delivers great image performance, quality that you can rely on it. This model is more than enough for sharing it on web’’…..

The V-Formation Of Birds

By on August 31, 2011

The arrival of the egrets in from all parts of Central Asia leaving the winter months.During winter,Egrets escape the cold weather in temperate regions and drove them to a warmer place like Malaysia. They go back same way driven by natural instinct for survival.

THE ARRIVAL OF THE MIGRATORY BIRDS

Egrets in flight, flying forming the V-Formation. Egrets used V- formation when migrating.  Amazing! I only live once to see this and I was very happy. I felt like, I was very close to nature to see the heavenly blue sky..

Photographed by: Pixel Pro Photography, Malaysia

Why do Egrets fly in this kind of formation? So curious to see these birds cooperating with each other.  I can still remember my high school days. All the best lessons I have learned from my science teacher and until this point.  Using the V- Formation helps the Egrets to save energy. The V- shaped was created by the first bird, leader of the group  itself to reduce resistance from the back row. When the leading bird gets tired, another bird takes over the lead. You can just imagine the long distance flight during migration.  I don’t know how long They migrate. We will learn a lot from here.

Owl-The Silent Hunters Of The Night

By on July 20, 2011

Owl are beautiful but I’m not really a typical owl lover. They terrified me. I’m scared and my phobia peaked  to see their big wide eyes and sharp talons, My feelings for them bloomed and developed very slowly because they don’t have the social behavior like my pet dogs and cats. They were even associated with evil spirits. This reputation probably comes from their haunting calls and silent flight. They even eat the little beautiful birds that frequent my backyard but, still something really adorable about them.

In fact, until recently, photographs of owls from these 3 crews piqued my curiosity and I soon became fully enamored of these birds. I’m not a scientist, ornithologist or a zoologist. No matter what role we played in your minds, We all have the same thing in common. We are all interested in the study of life.

Three young nature photographers took the shots to capture the moment that defines the subject.  (From left ) Fadhil Jumiran, Muhammad Omar  and Aizat Rosli: These  3 owl crews will take you into the woods to call owls for sightings. There was an action and good atmosphere in the middle of the night to shoot and getting the best shot, this is what it is all about.

The owl crews favorite trail is Sungai Manik Teluk Intan, where the photo was taken. It is a great photo spots, perfect site and logical route to trail the owls. One of the best things about trail is that they are easy to reach and a great site to cater wildlife photographers.  Wearing an orange shirt, Photographer Aizat Rosli, an active member of Pixel Pro. He was also present during the shooting of the ‘’EGRETS – THE MIGRATORY BIRDS.

In here, I wanted to show and share few things that you didn’t know. After this, From the images itself, you have to admit that these creatures are really pretty cute and you can now relate how owl living in each place in order to survive.

The shooting was planned ahead, bringing with them the right equiptment. Just like the night birds, photographers were enjoying the night photographing the owls, bringing with them a goodnight flashlight. It’s not easy to photograph owls, you have to hunt the flight path and look for a good location to do it because owls are not tolerant of people. A good distance and being prepared will get you better images. To get a good snap can be predicted with a little observation just like these. I guess, the distance occasionally shoot makes the owl less threatened.  You can view the distance between the owl and the photographers here.

This is the Barn owl. It has  heart – shaped face and a straight forward eyes. What do you think?   From the title itself,’’THE SILENT HUNTERS OF THE NIGHT’’. Who is the hunter? Is it the owl or the photographer? For me, It work both ways. The owl hunts for food at night and the photographers hunts for the owl to shoot. This owl appeared to be very white, and it’s already common in most areas.

Observed the owl’s feet. Have you noticed the sharp talons? A body part like these contribute to their eating capability. An owl hunt for prey and have strong feet with curved talons. You can see the next images on how owl make use of their sharp talons.

This is a natural habitat for them. Most owls are nocturnal.

It looks real and a true take.

I’m showing you everything about these species, and you’ll learn a lot through looking at the pictures alone.

LITTLE OWL

This diminutive Little Owl is one of the most familiar owls of open countryside, often being spotted perched on a fence post or tree stump. I’ve seen this kind of owl in our surroundings. This is probably the most common. I can even can tell the characteristics of owl living in a place like these. They have to adapt themselves to their habits to get food and sustain life. What do owls eat?

Awesome! Owl can hunt successfully in the dark. It carries its prey up to a branch to eat. But, what was that?  It’s a frog and it is still alive! The owl hits the prey with its feet as shown in this photo.

This is a very interesting shot and my major interest, to find out what they eat. An owl is a bird of prey and they are predators too. Many owls are active only at night because of their keen senses of sight and hearing.

What do owls eat? Encircled image of the owl’s prey, it was a frog. Many owls feed mainly on furry animals such as mice, moles, squirrels etc. They often swallow the smaller animals whole. When an owl lands on its prey, the owl hits the prey with its feet. If the prey is still alive, it breaks the animal’s neck with a quick bite. Owls can kill animals as large as they are or even larger. They also eat insects, worms, lizards, spiders, frogs, rodents and small birds. Impressive

The image will speaks for itself.

I feel great to share my story and  beautiful pictures with you. It’s my responsibility at the same time. To see the images alone is already learning from it. To see is to inform and will learn the truth about it.

People have looked into the forest and seen the same kind of birds that we see today. It’s high time for you to  make and share your time with them because this  will take you a step closer to love the birds.  Just like me, I wrote this as an’’ Expression of Love’’ to the birds and my contribution to wildlife.  Let us join our hands, help and support my cause in protecting wildlife. If you and I will support each other then, We can do it better. Let birds  be a part of your life. Someday, you’ll help lead and make world a better place for the animals. If you do not spend more time outside during the night to see the owl, try to take the chance to search. It is very safe to protect your inner fearful feelings. Much more wonderful to view it along over a cup of hot tea.

I would like to thank Alex Chan of Pixel Pro Photography Malaysia for providing images and for the kind permission to reproduce all photos and to the 3 owl crews.  My good friends;  Aizat Rosli, Fadhil Jumiran and Muhammed Omar. who took the good shots. Thank you very, very much.

Egrets – The Migratory Birds (Part 2)

By on July 15, 2011

Photographed by: Pixel Pro Photography, Malaysia                                Part- 1  2

COVERAGE OF THE EGRETS

The trail and river cruise going  to the  Perak river of Teluk Intan, Malaysia.  Pixelpro photographers  following the logical route to shoot the egrets is the Part 2 version of the first article that was published earlier, ‘’Egrets- The Migratory Birds.’’ Both 2 articles took 4 days from conception to completion.

In here, You can see the professional photographers capturing the scenes and what happens along the way going there. I was amused to see the bird’s paradise. It is really a quiet and ideal place for them. For me, To write something about the birds is a very satisfying experience. To be honest, The reason why I want to get up things with professional photographers? It is because we share the same passion and values. Passions for ‘’Photography’’ and ‘’Our Love for the Animals.’’ I don’t want to miss every details of it. This is a combined ‘’Labor of Love’’ between the photographers and me. Photography is such a wonderful and memorable way to document the place or the subject itself.

I don’t want to encourage  pro. Photographers to formulate questions about this because I’m not a photographer itself. Therefore I don’t know anyting about technical details  about photography. Hence focusing only  to the birds  itself.

The Story of the Egrets (Part 1)  is an inspirational tales of wildlife. I feel great to share not only my story but also the spectacular and timeless  Pixelpro photos for my readers. These photos alone makes me want to visit Malaysia. Let’s get started.  Snap and Enjoy!

The  Sungai Peruk river of Teluk Intan, Malaysia.

It is a touch of wildlife.

The boatman was even more excited  to be with the group.

Along the way to the Bird’s Paradise.  At around 6:00 a.m. Pixelpro Photographers going there by boat.

Alex Chan, The director of Pixel Pro Photography  with  the peace sign. It seems, He feels comfortable wearing a life jacket.

Alen Chow

Aizat Rosli,   waving his hand, He ‘s a friend of mine.  He was among with the group who went there.

Taking photos of the location. I was energized by the views itself. River cruise is not only an exciting way to travel but a good sights you can see  along the way.

This is the destination. The Bird Island is a paradise home for the egrets.  Full view of the Egrets home. The egrets looks like a small white paper torn over the mangroves. It looks like a paper airplane.  The mangroves is a transit area to feed and rest for the night.

Powershot Moments. As you can see the photographers  are always ready and their camera within reach to shoot anytime. This activity is a far long shooting session. I think the light conditions of the day is good.

I think, They will really create images worth talking about and it was true.

The shooting begins..

Alex Chan and company. What a relaxing way to capture the birds! This is the right place and time.

Beautiful setting. Impressive number of birds flying aimlessly.

The large dispersal flocks travelling along the way. This proves that Egrets are Migratory Shorebirds.

Taking and capturing pictures like this is a witness to the wonderful site.

It is a pro. series.

I feel good. This photo will definitely adds life.

Aizat’s way of capturing  egrets  movement in flight. Let us see his different movements and techniques. We will all learn from him.

What a pro! What is important is, He feels comfortable with this position. All images  came out to be very fantastic.

Aizat’s smart shots and it’s worth talking about . How I wish  to do this.

What makes a place unique? To see the flying birds encircling around makes it unique.

At sunset, Each one flies to its own specific tree to sleep.  Amazing! Great numbers of egrets. Just like, I was hypnotized by this scene.

6:30 p.m. here. The photographers waited until their lovable creatures gets to sleep.

Night skies, Dose of refreshing night breezes that blow along the river. The long day shooting ended

The egrets sleeps but, the story will not end up here…I just hope the survival of these species will continue to multiply through the ages. They are very much an integral part of our ecosystem.

I really appreciate you guys for sharing  your photos with me and that makes  your efforts worthwhile. I’m looking forward to the next version of the Migratory Birds Part 3  soon. I hope guys we will continue raising conservation and awareness to save the Wild birds.  Thank you very much Alex Chan , Aizat Rosli and other Pixel Pro Photography club members.

Egrets -The Migratory Birds (Part1)

By on July 11, 2011

Part-   1   2

Photographed by: Pixel Pro Photography, Malaysia

I love birds. The only creatures on earth with the gifts of both flight and beauty.  Watching birds indoor and outdoor brings me closer to nature. Through watching these species, I developed my patience as I truly appreciate the natural beauty of nature around us.  Bird’s life seems to be eternal, but they are dangerously threatened by human activities.

Just Recently, A friend of mine posted photographs on facebook.  It was a portrait of a bird, photos of egrets flying through the blue skies of Malaysia. I was captivated by the beauty of the egrets because it appeared to be real. I was in contemplative mood at that time,  all my attention was into birds, and thought, it’s an interesting subject to write about.I sent a message directly to my friend. Egrets are the top of our agenda, anything about it and related to nature.

Few days after, my plan quickly paid off. We began exchanging ideas, messages, and sending me photographs of different species of birds. I’m happy with the clarity people there care to share. I did some research on birds, even meeting with the zoologist of wildlife. I have gathered plenty of captivating photos of birds from these talented photographer who captured the beauty of natural world. Believe it or not!  We reached up to more than 90 photographs-. What a great number of pictures! These birds taught us a lot of friendship. Let’s meet him!

Alex Chan, a professional photographer and Director of Pixel Pro Photography with his club members captured the shots of migrating birds that flies through the blue skies of Malaysia. Just to catch the glimpse of these beautiful birds, They made the most of this opportunity by taking river cruises to spot  the migrating egrets along the  Perak river of Teluk Intan.  Perhaps, having a great name means a great deal of responsibility to share images, good news and events.  All photographs was majestic and impressive that  I would like to share with you  and the stories behind it. Not even a story that was told many times. This is a quality work in perfecting the shots with his camera. You can see it by yourself. Be the judge!

His camera shines giving the freedom to capture life in different forms. Alex says, ‘’My passion for the birds and having a camera that match our vision is imperative. I photographed  birds in natural habitat and my mission is to save it. I have taken my camera everywhere with me around. A camera that I can depend on. This model is more than enough for sharing it on web’’.  The picture speaks. Now, Let us check the main subject.

Photographers in action.-Aizat Rosli and company  Taking shots of flying birds can be quiet a challenging task. This shot is inspiring!

The subject:  CATTLE EGRET (Migratory Shorebird)

This is critically important, to find and discover the beautiful egrets alive and well in its natural habitat.  Let us know more about it.

THE LONG DISTANCE MIGRATION AND THE ARRIVAL OF THE EGRETS.

The moment you’ve been waiting for. The  much awaited event. The arrival of the birds from all parts of Asia. What a dream to see impressive number of birds!  How I wish to be here at this time of the day so I can see it by myself. I can’t feel the emotion but it somehow gave me the feeling of enthusiasm to see the birds migrating in flocks is already enough. These egrets flying south, heading to destination.A far away place is an opportunity. A warmer climate and a good breeding ground. Bird migration is the regular seasonal journey undertaken by many species of birds for food availability, habitat and weather.Egrets abandon the area where there is no more use.

Egrets used V- formation when migrating.  Amazing! I only live once to see this and I was very happy. I felt like, I was very close to nature to see the heavenly blue sky. It reminds me of my science teacher during my high school days. I have learned from her about larger birds like egrets, flying in flocks reduces the energy cost that it is a sort of technique to make flight easier. This explains the reason why? Thus, birds spend most of their lives in air.

How beautiful.  They are designed to such perfection. Peninsular Malaysia is really beautiful for nature lovers and birders. This makes bird watching particularly interesting. This is the  location shooting  for watching migratory shorebirds– Teluk Intan,  Malaysia

The Pixelpro Photographers in action. For me, This is the paradise for  the egrets.  You can see in this photograph the large dispersal flocks travelling along the way. I just hope the survival of these species will continue to multiply through the ages. They are very much an integral part of our ecosystem.

This is a very good image, the sharpness and the natural movement.

Egrets have bodies designed to be efficient in flight. Like many waders, these particular birds fly long distance during migration. Their head, body and wing shape help them propel themselves through the air. The long legs of egrets extend out beyond the end of the tail when the egret is in flight.

I love to see this flight of natural pose. A beautiful wading bird can brighten up the sky.

The bird island  is a paradise  home for the egrets. What a beautiful place to live in. This is the Perak river of Teluk Intan. Their preferred wintering grounds are mangroves where there are mudflats suited to their hunting style and providing preferred roosting sites.

Peral

This is the most common sight in this environment. Around 7:30 a.m. a number of egrets were seen circling above the paddy fields. You can see the egrets hanging with the cattle.

In this grassland, It seems that these egret will wait for the cattle to disturb the insects from the long grass, following closely as it glazes. They have a very good relationship.

What a beautiful day.

A friendly manner pose with the photographer.

It seems the cattle is a good listener. What do you think are they talking about?

What kind of relationship is this? This picture proves everything.

Is this an instinct? Or a tempting situation?   The cattle wants the egret to ride on his back, and the egret is about to ride.  You can find these two buddies in a dry grassy habitats like Paddy farm .This egrets are useful in reducing the numbers of flies which will annoy the cattle. The egret sit on his back, the cow gets a free cleaning and anti-insect service, some sort of spa service- the bird way cleansing. and the bird gets food and a free ride. Awesome! Just like humans too.  It’s a give and take situation.

These photograph will show you. This is something completely different. Fantastic pose! Egret nests in colonies and the nest are made of sticks on a tree.

It is about to rain as you can see dark clouds.

The egrets are rushing to respire before the rain will pour.

Home before dark Each one flies to their own specific tree, Cattle egrets roosting in trees so numerously that the trees look completely white, as shown here. I love this  wonderful scenery, a perfect place to respire.

A quiet sight! It’s now a goodnight time for the egrets. All set up to sleep. There’s no place like home. The darkness..the peaceful night makes the egrets sleep  and wakes up for a brighter tomorrow.

 CONSERVATION MESSAGE

None of us wants animal to suffer and in spite of many times people made mistakes. We, the generation of today never want to go through what they have encountered before. The youth of today never tends to shut off. We will continue to serve and save them.I want to make it clear, I don’t want to use animals to teach humans. I just want you to know that, It is the responsibility of humans to love and care for the animals. It’s my great wish for the young people who’ll read this record of my story should learn from it.

Sadly, some spectacular species have died out in former habitats because of human activities. Now, The sightings of the spectacular Egrets in Malaysia is a reminder to all Malaysians and to the rest of the world about the role of humans as stewards of the planet earth.  We should not abandon our role in environmental conservation and preservation so that animals like egrets do not completely disappear and follow the path of other animals that became extinct because human actions and intervention weren’t enough to save them.

I hope that in our own way, We help raise awareness for the protection of the wild birds. Me, and  Alex   wish that our children, and children of our children’s children will still behold the beauty of the egrets long after our generation has gone. Help protect and restore key habitats for threatened and declining migrant and endemic species. Be part of crucial campaigns to reduce threats to birds. Egrets were threatened by hunting for their feathers, more threatened by habitat destruction and pollution.

It is very clear that , this is a coverage of conservation, as far as the birds are concerned threatening their numbers, I am planning to make a trip to Malaysia this year and after seeing what Malaysia actually is from Pixel Pro Photography pics, I can’t just wait for months to come. Eventually, Alex came up with shots worth publishing. Each picture was mind-blowing and beautiful.I would like to thank  Pixel Pro Photography, Malaysia and to all club members for providing images and for the kind permission to reproduce all photos. Thank you very, very much.
